Community Services Cluster

Programme areas within the CSC fall under the Integrated Community Adherence Services (ICAS) and Community Social Support Services (CSSS).

Mokgadi Malahlela  Mokgadi assisted with the formation of Kheth’ Impilo in October 2009, after heading the Child Services Programme for ARK South Africa for 4 years. Prior to this she worked as programme director for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, responsible for the education and HIV/AIDS domains and the Learning for All Trust, an NGO working in the area of Early Childhood Development (ECD). The ECD has a special focus on assisting caregivers who could not afford ECD centres to prepare children for school using alternative/traditional methods, as well as community development. She has also worked as a high school teacher and an adult educator.

The Integrated Model for Service Delivery

All patients attending for VCT, HIV wellness, ARV, PMTCT or TB care receive an initial home visit from a PA, during which a holistic assessment of the patient and the household is made. This assessment includes a review of the patient's illnesses, health problems of family members and relevant socioeconomic aspects of their home environment. Key socioeconomic issues considered are access to social grants and registration of adults and children with Home Affairs for certification i.e. birth certificates and Identity documents.

PAs feedback about problems identified during the home visit to relevant parties. Health problems are fed back to the ICASS site facilitator for discussion at the weekly multidisciplinary team meeting at the clinic and social problems to the CSSS Community Worker coordinator for discussion with members of the CSSS coordination team viz. the auxiliary social worker and the social worker. Assistance with social problems on the ground is implemented by the CSSS community workers whose conditions of service are similar to those of the PAs.
